====== Known Issues in InqScribe ====== These are the known issues and problems with InqScribe 1.5.2. ===== Footpedal Issues ===== ==== Footpedal settings getting corrupted ==== This bug affects version 2.0.4 only. Earlier versions are not affected. A typical problem: You've set up your footpedal, everything seems to be working fine. You quit InqScribe for the day, return later, start InqScribe, and all of a sudden your footpedal is no longer working. So you run the footpedal setup wizard again, and things seem to work...for a while, but soon it's corrupted again. You do this a few more times and the footpedals stop working altogether. Please see this blog post for a fix: http://www.inqscribe.com/news/entry_249.php ==== Can't set pedal keys with Wizard ==== (We haven't had a chance to confirm this, but we thought we'd post it in case you're seeing similar issues -- BL 12/6/07) We've had some reports from folks who are unable to use the wizard to define the footpedal keys on an otherwise working foot pedal. There are two related causes: 1. If you're finding that moving the mouse 'undoes' your footpedal setting, (e.g. you set "Play" to "(your footpedal) Button #1", and then when you go to click "Next", InqScribe replaces your footpedal setting with the name of your mouse), try using another mouse to set the pedal, or try first moving the mouse to the "Next" button, set the pedal button, then click "Next." 2. On Mac OS X, using "USB Overdrive" can cause some conflicts with assigning footpedals. Your system might recognize the footpedal (e.g. you can see the footpedal in System Profiler), but when you press the pedal buttons using the Set Up Foot Pedal Wizard, nothing happens. In this case, you may need to uninstall USB Overdrive. IMPORTANT: Use the "USB Overdrive" uninstaller to remove it to make sure that you remove all remnants of USB Overdrive. ==== Pressing the "Shift" key pauses video/audio when using a footpedal ==== **This has been fixed in InqScribe 2.0. Foot pedal shortcuts now ignore modifier keys by default.** What you're seeing is a bug/feature in InqScribe 1.5. The issue is that foot pedal shortcuts respect the modifier keys. So "center pedal" is not the same shortcut as "shift-center pedal." What is happening is that you're pressing the center pedal, so you're playing until "center pedal" is released. When you press the shift key, you essentially release "center pedal" and press "shift-center pedal". We're fixing this in the next release of InqScribe. There are some cases where it's nice to be able to use modifier keys with pedal buttons, but we're going to make sure that, by default, pedals ignore modifier keys. In the meantime, you can work around the problem by defining "shift-center pedal" to play until released. Then, when you press shift, even though "center pedal" is released, "shift-center pedal" will kick in and keep playing. Here are [[inqscribe:shiftpedal|instructions for setting up the foot pedal]]. ===== Mac OS X Issues ===== ==== Avoid F1-F4 in Shortcuts ==== On Mac OS X, F1 through F4 are reserved for Undo, Cut, Copy, and Paste, respectively. Unfortunately we can't change those settings. Assigning shortcut or snippet triggers to one of these keys will lead to very strange behavior, because the underlying edit action will take place first, followed by your defined shortcut. We're working on a solution to this issue. ==== Wacom Tablets Interfere with Shortcut Creation ==== **This has been fixed in InqScribe 2.0.** Recent driver software for Wacom tablets is not compatible with InqScribe's Define Trigger dialog. This means that if you try to define a trigger for a shortcut with a Wacom tablet connected, InqScribe may crash with a "NilObjectException" error. This issue affects recent Wacom driver software (e.g. 4.9.5). With older software (4.7.9) the problem does not exist. To avoid the crash, you need to unplug your tablet from the USB port //before// you click the "Define Trigger" button in the Edit Shortcuts dialog. You can reconnect the tablet after you've defined your trigger and clicked OK. This issue will be fixed in the next release. ===== Windows Issues ===== ==== Conflicts with Cox Cable Internet Security Suite ==== If you have Cox Cable's Internet Security Suite installed, InqScribe may not run at all. For instance, you might double click on the InqScribe icon, and then just see an hourglass for a second, and then nothing happens. You'll need to uninstall the Internet Security Suite in order for InqScribe to run. Simply turning it off is apparently insufficient. We're working on resolving this. ==== I restored an InqScribe window from the task bar, and the video is blank! ==== The easiest way to restore the video is to press the play button. Audio will play normally, and the video will update as soon as your movie reaches the next key frame (or immediately, if you're using a codec like Motion JPEG that doesn't have key frames). The reason the video goes blank has to do with a bug in our development environment. We've contacted the vendor and are working with them to resolve the problem. Note that you may also experience this problem is you use a screen saver. In this case as well, the best way to restore the video is to press play.
