Instructions for Setting up a Foot Pedal

Only applies to Version 1.5.2

These are instructions for setting up a foot pedal for use with InqScribe to workaround the feature/bug where the shift key causes erratic behavior when used with a foot pedal controller. We use the settings for the VPE Pedal (also known as the V-Pedal) as an example, but other pedals should have a similar set up.

What is happening is that as you’re pressing the center pedal, you’re “Playing until ‘center pedal’ is Released”. When you press the shift key, you essentially release “center pedal” and press “shift-center pedal”. We’re fixing this in the next release of InqScribe. There are some cases where it’s nice to be able to use modifier keys with pedal buttons, but we’re going to make sure that, by default, pedals ignore modifier keys.

There are two key things you need to do:

So your shortcuts list should look something like this:

Cue (3.0x): Shift Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick
Cue (3.0x): Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick
Play until Released (0 sec): Shift Button #1, Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick
Play until Released (0 sec): Button #1, Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick
Review (3.0x): Shift Button #1 on Galy USB Joystick
Review (3.0x): Button #1 on Galy USB Joystick

Here’s how you do it:

1. Select “Edit→Set Up Foot Pedal...” from the menus.

2. Define the pedal buttons.

2a. Set the center pedal to:

Trigger: Center Button (Button #1,Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick)
Command: Play Until Released
Skip: 0 secs

The important thing here is to set the Skip value to 0. Otherwise, when you press the shift key, InqScribe thinks you’ve released the pedal and does the skipback.

2b. Set the Left Pedal to:

Trigger: Left button (Button #1 on Galy USB Joystick)
Command: Review

2c. Set the Right Pedal to:

Trigger: Right button (Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick)
Command: Review

3. Save the setup.

4. Select “Edit→Set Up Foot Pedal...” from the menus again. This time we’re going to do the same thing, only holding down the shift key as we define the trigger.

5. Define the pedal buttons with shift key.

5a. Set the center pedal to:

Trigger: Shift Center Button (Shift Button #1,Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick)
Command: Play Until Released
Skip: 0 secs

5b. Set the Left Pedal to:

Trigger: Shift Left button (Shift Button #1 on Galy USB Joystick)
Command: Review

5c. Set the Right Pedal to:

Trigger: Shift Right button (Shift Button #2 on Galy USB Joystick)
Command: Review

6. Save the setup.

And if you really need the Skip feature on play, you can just use the default Ctrl-Tab Skipback feature to do a skipback when and if you need it.
