Can I play DVF audio files from my digital voice recorder?

No. DVF is a proprietary format for Sony-brand digital recorders.

Neither QuickTime nor Windows Media directly support DVF playback. And since InqScribe relies on QuickTime and/or Windows Media to play media, DVF is not directly supported.

Your best bet is to convert your DVF files to something QuickTime and/or Windows Media can read, such as AIFF or WAV.

  • Sony’s own software, Digital Voice Editor is supposed to be able to translate DVF files into other formats. It should have come with your digital voice recorder. This might be a link to download the software from Sony eSupport
  • Switch Plus is supposed to be able to convert DVF to MP3. (Windows and Mac)
  • Switch, by NCH Swift Sound might be able to do the conversion for you. (Windows and Mac) (Not sure if these are different or the same.)
  • Some folks have said that Diasonic's DVR software can also do conversions.
  • Here is a link to Sony’s DVF plugin for Windows Media Player. You *might* be able to install this plugin and then use Windows Media as your default player to play DVF files directly, but we have not tested this.
