InqScribe won't start! (Windows)

I'm trying to start InqScribe but nothing happens.

[These instructions are for InqScribe version 1.5.2 and Windows XP. If you're using other versions, you might find some of these instructions useful, though they may not exactly match your setup.]

There are a number of things to look for:

Was InqScribe properly installed?

Navigate to the installed directory of InqScribe and check the names and sizes of all the files. Make sure they're all installed properly. If you used the default options, you should find the folder at:

C:\Program Files\InqScribe\

And you should find something like this if you set the folder view to show “Details”:

[Folder] Icons
[Folder] User Guide
         InqScribe.exe 8,699KB
         Read Me.rtf 20KB
         unins000.dat 9KB
         unins000.exe 75KB

If the “InqScribe.exe” file is much less than 8,699KB, then the files were probably not installed correctly.

The best solution is to re-download the InqScribe installer from the web site.

Do you have enough RAM?

Do you have spyware/adware/virus protection software that might prevent InqScribe from starting?

We've seen occasional problems with MacAfee software as well as Cox Cable's Internet Security Suite.

  • Cox Cable Internet Security Suite: You'll need to uninstall the suite in order for InqScribe to work. We're working on a solution for this. (See also this entry.)
